Well, that didn’t last long
I got sick again, so no riding this week. It’s been cold and wet and I didn’t want to do what I did last time, riding while sick and turning what should have been a four-day cold into a two week ordeal.
This winter the people in my office have been especially diseased. I think it’s because we got bought last year by an east-coast based company. Not that foreigners from beyond the Sierras are any more pestilent than us west coast folk, but they bring a slightly different set of germs to work. Since they are frequently visiting us, we get to participate in two germ populations. Last week my boss was visiting from back east and was sick the whole time but toughed it out and came to work anyhow. Thanks. So this week was my turn.
It used to be that we’d send sick people home so they could get better and so they wouldn’t infect their co-workers. But now with the 24/7 work cycle everyone thinks they are too important to miss a single day of work. Sick leave policies have changed so that your sick leave comes out of your vacation. How stupid is that? It encourages sick people to come to work. But that is counter-productive- If one sickie infects 10% of her co-workers and sickies work at 50% of capacity, any office with more than 11 people should be forcibly ejecting anyone with a sniffle and sending them home, with pay, as a productivity-increasing measure.
